Official Sushi Go! Rules

Sushi Go! is a light and strategic card drafting game where you collect delicious sushi dishes in an effort to score the most points. Here's how to play:

Objective

Number of Players: 2-5 players


Objective: Score the most points at the end of the game by collecting sets of sushi and completing special dishes.

Setup

1. Shuffle the deck of Sushi Go cards.


2. Deal a hand of cards to each player. The number of cards depends on the number of players:
​2 players: 10 cards each
3 players: 9 cards each
4 players: 8 cards each
5 players: 7 cards each

Gameplay

1. Pick and Pass: Each player simultaneously chooses one card from their hand to keep and places it face-down in front of them. Once everyone has chosen, players pass their remaining hand of cards to the player on their left. This continues until all cards have been chosen. 

2. Scoring: After three rounds of drafting (represented by the cards being passed around three times), players tally their scores. Points are earned based on the types of sushi cards collected: 

  • Maki Rolls: Players with the most and second most Maki Rolls score points. Ties cancel out. 

  • Sashimi: Sets of 3 Sashimi cards are worth 10 points. 

  • Tempura: Sets of 2 Tempura cards are worth 5 points. 

  • Dumplings: The more Dumpling cards collected, the more points they're worth (e.g., 1 Dumpling is worth 1 point, 5 Dumplings are worth 15 points). 

  • Wasabi: Wasabi cards multiply the next Nigiri card played by 3x its value. 

  • Nigiri: Nigiri cards score points individually. Wasabi cards must be played before Nigiri cards to receive the multiplier. 

3. Special Cards: Some cards have special effects: 

  • Chopsticks: Allows you to take two cards from one hand. You replace the Chopsticks card you took with the two cards you selected. This can only be used once before the next time you pick. 

  • Pudding: Pudding cards are scored at the end of the game, with players gaining points for having the most, second most, and least Pudding cards. 

4. End of Round: After scoring, players discard all cards except Pudding cards, which are kept for the next round. Pass the remaining Pudding cards to the next player, and start a new round.

Winning the Game

  • After three rounds, players tally their scores from all rounds, including Pudding points. The player with the most points wins!

Notes/Variations

  • Some card expansions might introduce special scoring mechanics or unique abilities. Refer to the instructions for your specific version of Sushi Go!

  • The game typically lasts for three rounds. After each round, players tally their scores and reset for the next round. The player with the most points after the final round wins the game!

Tips:

  • Pay attention to the cards being passed around to anticipate what other players might collect.

  • Consider both short-term gains (scoring points in the current round) and long-term strategies (completing sets or denying points to opponents).

  • Wasabi can be a powerful tool for boosting Nigiri scores, but use it strategically.
