Official Cover Your Assets Rules

Cover Your Assets is a fun card game where you collect assets and try to be the first millionaire. Here's how to play:

Objective

  • Number of Players: 2-4

  • Be the first player to reach $1,000,000 by collecting Asset cards.

Setup

1. Shuffle the deck of asset cards and deal four cards to each player.

2. Place the remaining deck face-down in the center of the table as the draw pile.

3. Shuffle the deck of action cards and place it face-down next to the draw pile.

4. Determine the starting player, typically the player with the highest asset card in their hand.

Gameplay

1. Turn Structure:

  • On your turn, you have two options:

    • Draw: Draw one card from the draw pile.

    • Lay Down Cards: Lay down asset cards from your hand onto the table in front of you. You can play pairs, runs, or sets of cards to create stacks. Stacks must always start with a single card.

    • You can also play action cards from your hand at any time during your turn, following the instructions on the card.

2. Protecting Assets:

  • Once you've laid down an asset card, you can protect it by placing another asset card of the same type on top of it. This creates a "covered asset" stack.

  • Covered assets are safe from being stolen by opponents.

3. Stealing Assets:

  • Players can attempt to steal unprotected assets from opponents during their turn by playing action cards, such as "Steal," "Double Steal," or "Snatch."

  • If an opponent has an unprotected asset on the table, you can play the corresponding action card and steal it.

  • However, if the asset is covered, it cannot be stolen.

4. End of Turn:

  • After taking your action(s), your turn ends, and play moves to the next player in a clockwise direction.

Winning the Game

  • The game continues until the draw pile runs out of cards.

  • At the end of the game, players tally the value of their assets on the table.

  • The player with the highest total value of assets wins the game.

Notes/Variations

Special Cards

  • "Junk" cards can be played on top of any asset stack, preventing it from being stolen but also preventing the stack from growing.

  • "Lawsuit" cards can be played to negate an action card played against you.

  • "Wild" cards can be used as any type of asset card.

House Rules

  • Players can create house rules to add more complexity or variation to the game, such as increasing or decreasing the number of cards dealt at the beginning of the game, or adding new action cards.

That's the basic gameplay of "Cover Your Assets"! (Also known as "Cover Your A$$ets") It's a strategic and competitive game that combines elements of luck and skill as players compete to protect their assets and accumulate wealth.
