Official Traitors Aboard Rules

Traitors Aboard: Pirate Card Game is a strategic party game where players assume the roles of pirates aboard a ship, with the goal of completing missions while managing the risk of betrayal. Players must work together to achieve their objectives while uncovering potential traitors among their crew.

Objective

The main objective of Traitors Aboard: Pirate Card Game is to complete all mission objectives while identifying and neutralizing any traitors. Victory is achieved by completing objectives or by the traitors successfully sabotaging the mission.

Setup

Game Components:

  • Role Cards: Each player receives a role card that determines their pirate role and any special abilities.

  • Mission Cards: Cards that outline the objectives players need to complete.

  • Traitor Cards: Cards that secretly assign traitor roles to some players.

  • Action Cards: Cards representing various actions players can take, such as attacking or defending.

  • Event Cards: Cards that introduce random events and complications.

  • Tokens: Used to track health, resources, and other game elements.

Initial Setup:

  • Shuffle and Deal Cards: Shuffle the Role, Mission, Traitor, Action, and Event cards. Deal one Role Card to each player and place the remaining cards in their respective decks.

  • Distribute Tokens: Place tokens within easy reach of all players.

  • Determine First Player: Decide who will go first through a method of choice.

Gameplay

Traitors Aboard: Pirate Card Game is played over a series of rounds, each consisting of several phases.

1. Planning Phase

  • Review Missions: Players review the mission cards and discuss strategies for completing them.

  • Role Reveal: Each player secretly reviews their Role Card to understand their abilities and objectives.

2. Action Phase

  • Draw Action Cards: Players draw Action Cards that determine their available actions for the turn.

  • Perform Actions: Players take turns performing actions such as attacking, defending, or gathering resources.

  • Resolve Events: Draw and resolve Event Cards that may introduce new challenges or change the game dynamics.

3. Traitor Phase (if applicable)

  • Sabotage Actions: Traitors may secretly attempt to sabotage the mission or disrupt the crew’s efforts.

  • Reveal Traitor Actions: At the end of the round or when certain conditions are met, traitor actions are revealed.

4. End of Round

  • Check Mission Status: Determine if any mission objectives have been completed or if additional actions are required.

  • Update Game State: Adjust tokens and game markers as needed, and prepare for the next round.

Example of a Turn

  1. Draw Action Cards: Draw cards to determine your available actions for the turn.

  2. Perform Actions: Take an action, such as attacking a rival pirate or defending your ship.

  3. Draw Event Card: Draw and resolve an Event Card that may introduce new complications or challenges.

  4. Evaluate Mission Progress: Assess whether the mission objectives are being met or if additional actions are needed.

Winning the Game

The game ends when one of the following conditions is met:

  • Victory for the Crew: The crew successfully completes all mission objectives and identifies and neutralizes all traitors.

  • Victory for the Traitors: The traitors manage to sabotage the mission or complete their secret objectives, resulting in a win for the traitors.

Strategy/Variations

  • Collaborate Carefully: Work together to complete missions but remain vigilant for signs of betrayal.

  • Observe Behavior: Pay attention to other players’ actions and inconsistencies to identify potential traitors.

  • Manage Resources Wisely: Use your actions and resources effectively to address challenges and advance your objectives.

  • Adapt to Events: Be flexible and adapt your strategy based on the random events and evolving game conditions.

  • Role Variants: Introduce new roles or abilities for a more dynamic gameplay experience.

  • Extended Missions: Play longer or more complex missions with additional objectives and challenges.
