Official Royal Turmoil Rules
Royal Turmoil is a fast-paced, easy-to-learn card game that's perfect for parties, family game nights, or a quick burst of strategic chaos. Here's how to play:
Objective
Earn the most points by strategically claiming, defending, stealing, and settling Royals (cards representing various members of royalty).
Setup
1. Shuffle the Decks: Thoroughly mix both the Royal Deck and Resource Deck and place them face down within reach of all players.
2. Deal Starting Hands: Deal a set number of Resource Cards (typically 5-7) to each player, keeping them face down in their hand. Leave the remaining Resource Deck and the Wizard Deck face down in the center.
Gameplay
Royal Turmoil is all about quick turns and strategic resource management. Here's the flow of the game:
1. Round Start:
The youngest player starts the game and is the first "Active Player." In subsequent rounds, the turn order moves clockwise.
2. Draw Resources:
On your turn, draw two cards from the Resource Deck and add them to your hand.
3. Actions (Choose One):
The heart of the game revolves around using your resources to take different actions on Royals:
Claiming Royals: Play the required resources (as shown on the Royal card) from your hand to "claim" a Royal from the deck and place it face up in front of you. This is your first step towards scoring points with that Royal.
Settling Royals: Once you've claimed a Royal and played additional resources on it that match the symbols on the Royal card, you can "settle" it. This removes the Royal and all played resources from the table and earns you the points listed on the Royal card. Settled Royals are placed in a separate score pile.
Stealing Royals: If another player has a claimed (but not settled) Royal face up in front of them, you can attempt to "steal" it by playing one matching resource card (or a Wild Resource Card) required by the Royal.
Defending Against Theft:Â Â The owner of the claimed Royal can choose to:
Let you have the Royal without a fight.
Play a matching resource card or a Wizard Card to defend their Royal and prevent the steal.
4. Discard Pile:
After taking your action (claiming, settling, or attempting to steal), discard any Resource Cards you don't want to keep face up into a discard pile.
5. End of Round:
Play continues clockwise with each player taking their turn and performing actions. The round ends when either the Resource Deck is depleted or a pre-determined number of rounds have been played (check your specific game instructions).
Winning the Game
Once a round ends, players reveal their settled Royals and count the points listed on each card. Scoring tokens (if used) can be used to keep track of points.
The player with the most points after a set number of rounds (typically 3-5) wins the game and is crowned the "Royal Strategist"!
Tips/Strategies
Resource Management:Â Â Carefully manage your resources and prioritize claiming Royals that require resources you already have in hand.
Watch Out for Steals:Â Â Keep an eye on other players' claimed Royals and their resources to identify opportunities to steal or defend your own Royals.
Don't Waste Resources:Â Â Don't overspend resources on settling Royals unless you're confident they won't be stolen.
Use Wild Cards Wisely: Wild Resource Cards can be a powerful tool, but use them strategically to maximize their benefit.
Royal Turmoil offers a perfect blend of strategy, quick thinking, and a dash of chaos. It's a fun and engaging game that will keep you laughing and scheming your way to royal victory!
