Official Apples to Apples Junior Rules
The Apples to Apples Junior family party game is made especially for kids 9 years and older. It's the hilarious Apples to Apples party game designed for younger members of the family. Here's how to play:
Objective
The objective of Apples to Apples Junior is to win the most rounds by playing the Red Apple card (nouns) from your hand that you think best matches the Green Apple card (adjective) played by the judge.
Setup
1. Players: 4-10 players.
2. Deck: The game includes two types of cards:
Red Apple Cards: These cards feature nouns (people, places, things, or events).
Green Apple Cards: These cards feature adjectives (descriptive words).
3. Deal: Each player is dealt 5 Red Apple cards. The remaining Red Apple cards form a draw pile. The Green Apple cards are placed in a separate draw pile.
Gameplay
Choosing a Judge:Â Select one player to be the first judge. The judge role rotates clockwise after each round.
Playing a Round:
The judge draws a Green Apple card and reads the word aloud to all players.
Each player (except the judge) chooses one Red Apple card from their hand that they believe best matches the Green Apple card and places it face down in the middle.
The judge shuffles the chosen Red Apple cards to ensure anonymity and then reads each one aloud.
The judge selects the Red Apple card they think best matches the Green Apple card's word or meaning.
Winning a Round:
The player whose card is chosen by the judge wins the round and keeps the Green Apple card as a point.
Each player draws a new Red Apple card from the draw pile to maintain 5 cards in their hand.
Rotating the Judge:
The role of judge rotates clockwise after each round, and the next round begins.
Winning the Game
The game can continue until a player wins a set number of Green Apple cards (e.g., 4 cards for a quick game, 7 cards for a full game). The player with the most Green Apple cards at the end of the game wins.
Notes/Variations
Junior Advanced:Â For older children, consider allowing players to discuss or defend their choices before the judge makes a decision.
House Rules:Â Players can create special rules or adjust the winning conditions to better fit their group.
Apples to Apples Junior is a fun and engaging game for families and children. It's a great way to improve vocabulary, creativity, and communication skills.
