Official Tsuro of the Seas Rules

Tsuro of the Seas is a tile-laying game where players sail their ships through perilous waters filled with dragons. The objective is to be the last ship remaining on the board. Here’s a comprehensive guide to the rules:

Objective

The goal is to navigate your ship across the board while avoiding collisions with other ships, running off the edge of the board, or encountering daikaiju (sea monsters).

Components

  • Game Board: An 11x11 grid.

  • Ship Tokens: Representing each player's ship.

  • Wake Tiles: Path tiles used to move ships.

  • Daikaiju Tiles: Representing sea monsters.

  • Daikaiju Dice: Used to move the daikaiju.

  • Stormy Seas Tile: Used to mark stormy conditions.

  • Dragon Tiles: Representing daikaiju tiles in the supply.

Setup

  1. Place the Game Board: Lay the board flat in the center of the play area.

  2. Distribute Ship Tokens: Each player chooses a ship token and places it on one of the starting marks around the edge of the board.

  3. Deal Wake Tiles: Shuffle the wake tiles and deal three to each player. Place the remaining tiles in a draw pile.

  4. Place Daikaiju Tiles: Shuffle the daikaiju tiles and randomly place one on each marked starting location on the board.

  5. Prepare Daikaiju Dice: Have the daikaiju dice ready for use.

Gameplay

Tsuro of the Seas is played over several turns, with each turn consisting of the following phases:

1. Draw Phase

  • Draw one wake tile from the draw pile, so you have three tiles in your hand.

2. Daikaiju Phase

  • Roll the daikaiju dice to determine if the daikaiju move. If a 6, 7, or 8 is rolled, the daikaiju move.

  • For each daikaiju on the board, roll the dice again to determine its movement direction and distance. Move the daikaiju accordingly.

  • If a daikaiju moves onto a space with a ship or another daikaiju, remove the ship/daikaiju from the board.

3. Navigation Phase

  • Place one of your wake tiles on the board to extend the path from your ship’s current location.

  • Move your ship along the path created by the wake tile until it either reaches the end of the path, runs off the edge of the board, collides with another ship, or encounters a daikaiju.

  • If your ship moves off the edge of the board, collides with another ship, or encounters a daikaiju, your ship is removed from the game.

4. End Phase

  • If you have fewer than three wake tiles in your hand, draw back up to three tiles.

  • Play continues clockwise to the next player.

Ending the Game

The game ends when only one ship remains on the board. That player is the winner. If all ships are removed from the board during the same turn, the game ends in a tie.

Tips and Strategies

  • Tile Placement: Place wake tiles strategically to avoid collisions and ensure a clear path for your ship.

  • Daikaiju Management: Keep an eye on the daikaiju and their potential movements to avoid dangerous areas.

  • Opponent Interaction: Use your tiles to potentially force other players into difficult positions.

  • Hand Management: Keep a variety of tiles in your hand to adapt to changing conditions on the board.

Tsuro of the Seas offers a thrilling and unpredictable gaming experience.
