Objective:
To have the highest score by strategically placing buildings in your town and efficiently using the available space on your 4x4 grid.
Setup:
Players: 1-6 players.
Player Boards: Each player receives a 4x4 grid player board, representing their town.
Building Cards: Shuffle the Building cards and randomly select one of each type (e.g., Cottage, Chapel, Farm, etc.) to place in the center of the table. These cards show the resources needed and the layout required to construct each building.
Monument Cards: Deal two Monument cards to each player. Each player chooses one to keep and discards the other. Monuments provide unique abilities or scoring bonuses when built.
Resource Cubes: Place all the resource cubes (wood, wheat, brick, glass, and stone) within reach of all players.
First Player: Determine the first player, who will begin the game by selecting the first resource.
Gameplay:
Rounds: The game is played in rounds. During each round, players simultaneously place resource cubes on their grids.
Resource Selection:
The first player calls out a resource (wood, wheat, brick, glass, or stone). All players must take that resource cube and place it on an empty space on their grid.
Play continues clockwise, with each player taking turns choosing a resource cube for everyone to place.
Building Construction:
When a player has placed resource cubes on their grid in the specific pattern shown on one of the Building cards, they may immediately construct that building.
The player removes the resource cubes from their grid and places the corresponding Building on one of the spaces previously occupied by a resource cube.
Constructing buildings is critical for scoring points and maximizing space on your grid.
Monuments:
Monuments are unique to each player and can be built by fulfilling their specific resource and placement requirements. Monuments often provide powerful effects or end-game scoring bonuses.
End of Game:
The game ends when all players can no longer place resources on their grids.
Players then score points based on the buildings they’ve constructed and any additional bonuses from their Monument.
Scoring:
Cottages: Score if they are fed (near a Farm).
Chapels: Score based on the number of adjacent Cottages.
Farms: Feed Cottages, making them score.
Factories: Produce points based on the number of specific resources.
Monuments: Provide unique scoring bonuses.
Empty Spaces: Each empty space on the grid at the end of the game subtracts points from your total score.
Winning:
The player with the highest score at the end of the game wins.
Tips for Playing:
Efficient Use of Space: Plan your grid carefully to avoid leaving empty spaces, which result in negative points.
Building Synergies: Construct buildings that work well together to maximize points.
Adaptability: Be prepared to adapt your strategy based on the resources selected by other players.
