Don't Wake Daddy is a classic children's board game where players try to sneak past a sleeping father to reach the refrigerator for a midnight snack. Here's a breakdown of the rules:
Number of Players:Â 2-4 players
Components:
Game board depicting a house layout, with a bedroom (including a large bed for Daddy) and a pantry or refrigerator at the end.
Playing pieces representing the children (pawns, movers, etc.)
Spinner or die (depending on the version)
Alarm clock with a button or lever to activate the "Daddy" figure
Color-coded cards (optional, depending on the version)
Objective:Â Be the first player to reach the refrigerator (end space) on the game board without waking Daddy.
Setup:
Place the game board on a flat surface.
Each player chooses a colored playing piece and places it on the designated starting space (usually their beds).
Put Daddy in his bed on the game board (flat and asleep).
Shuffle the color-coded cards (if included) and place them face down in a draw pile.
Gameplay:
Youngest Starts:Â The youngest player starts the game and takes a turn.
Spin or Roll:Â Players take turns spinning the spinner or rolling the die (depending on the version) to determine how many spaces they can move their playing piece.
Move Your Piece:Â Move your playing piece the indicated number of spaces on the board following the path.
Landing on a Color Space:
Plain Color Space: If you land on a plain colored space, your turn ends.
Color-Coded Space with Matching Card (if applicable): If you land on a space with a color that matches a card you hold (from the draw pile), your turn ends, but you are safe from waking Daddy.
Landing on a Specific Action Space:  Some spaces might have specific actions or consequences, such as:
"Take a Snack" Space:Â Move a designated number of extra spaces forward.
"Look Under the Rug" Space:Â Draw a card and follow the instruction (might grant safe passage or require moving backward).
Waking Daddy Up: If you land on a space that doesn't match a card you hold (if applicable) or a specific action space doesn't grant you safe passage, you need to press the button on the alarm clock.
Daddy Wakes Up:  Pressing the button activates the "Daddy" figure, which might pop up slightly or make a noise depending on the game version.
Daddy Catches You (Optional):  In some versions, there's a mechanism where Daddy's arm swings out if you wake him. If your playing piece gets caught by the arm, you might need to move back to your starting space.
Continue Play: Play continues clockwise to the next player. They take their turn spinning/rolling and moving their piece.
Winning the Game:
The first player to reach the refrigerator space (end space) on the board without waking Daddy wins the game!
Additional Notes:
The number of spaces a player can move might be determined by the spinner/die or a combination of both (e.g., spinner shows the color and die shows the number of spaces for that color).
Some versions might have a limited number of turns or a time limit to add an extra layer of challenge.
