Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City is a competitive game for 2-4 players where you lead a gang vying for control over Night City. Through tactical decision-making, area control, and resource management, you'll establish dominance by expanding your influence, completing objectives, and engaging in combat against rival gangs.
Setup
Game Board: Place the game board in the center of the table.
Faction Selection: Each player selects a gang and takes its associated components, including miniatures, tokens, and player boards.
Starting Resources: Distribute starting resources (credits, influence tokens, and any faction-specific items) as outlined in the rulebook.
Objective Cards: Shuffle the Objective deck and deal a set number of cards face down to each player, as per player count.
Neutral Elements:
Place NPCs and other neutral markers on the board based on the setup instructions.
Position random event markers if applicable.
Initiative Order: Determine the first player randomly and arrange turn order tokens accordingly.
Miscellaneous Setup: Ensure all additional components like the Combat and Netrunner decks are shuffled and placed in their respective areas. Each player places their miniatures on their designated starting locations.
Game Objectives
The goal is to achieve the most influence points (IP) by the end of the game. Influence points can be gained by:
Controlling key areas of Night City.
Completing objectives.
Winning combat encounters.
Leveraging faction-specific abilities.
Turn Structure
The game is played over multiple rounds, with each round consisting of:
1. Planning Phase
Players secretly select actions or allocate resources based on their strategy.
Choose cards, upgrade abilities, or position units on the board.
2. Action Phase
Players take turns performing actions in initiative order. Available actions include:
Move: Relocate your gang members to adjacent districts.
Activate: Trigger district effects, complete objectives, or deploy additional resources.
Combat: Engage rival gangs in contested areas using your gang's abilities and the Combat deck.
Netrunning: Hack into Night City's systems to gain advantages or disrupt opponents.
3. Resolution Phase
Resolve ongoing effects, objectives, or any triggered end-of-round events.
Replenish resources and prepare for the next round.
Actions and Gameplay Mechanics
Movement
Move gang members between connected districts.
Control areas by outnumbering rivals.
Activation
Use a district’s unique abilities or resources.
Deploy upgrades or trigger objectives.
Combat
Players in contested areas can initiate combat.
Resolve battles using the Combat deck, factoring in modifiers from your gang's abilities and upgrades.
Winning combat grants control over the district and influence points.
Netrunning
Send a Netrunner to hack city systems.
Draw from the Netrunner deck to execute hacks, gaining bonuses or sabotaging enemies.
Game End
The game ends after a set number of rounds or when a specific end-game condition is met (e.g., completing a final objective).
Scoring
Influence Points: Count all IP earned from controlled districts, completed objectives, and gang-specific bonuses.
The player with the highest total IP is declared the winner. In case of a tie, the tied player with the most resources remaining wins.
Special Rules and Modules
Faction Abilities: Each gang has unique abilities and playstyles that provide strategic advantages.
Random Events: Optional modules introduce unexpected challenges or opportunities each round.
Advanced Objectives: Use advanced Objective cards for a more strategic experience.
Solo/Co-op Mode: Play against AI-controlled gangs or work together to complete shared objectives.
